Donald
S. Bowser grew up in the family business. His father, Fred S.
Bowser established his funeral home in Parker in 1919. Six of his 10 children
eventually became licensed funeral directors and opened funeral homes throughout
the state of Pennsylvania. Donald Bowser, the eldest son, opened
his funeral home in Plumville in 1931.
After Donald's death in 1969, his wife Anne continued
to operate the family business until her death in 1986.
Today, Plumville's population has vastly decreased compared
to the fast paced days when coal mining was big business. The Plumville
Funeral Home still enjoys a comfortable business serving the Plumville,
Sagamore, Creekside, Marion Center and the outlying areas of the countryside.
Donald’s daughter, Pamela, and her husband, Michael Minich, purchased
the funeral home from her mother, Anne Bowser, in 1985. The name was then
changed to “Bowser-Minich”. (Bowser-Minich is pronounced “Bowser-MinicK”)
A new facility was built in Indiana in 1986. The new
facility was dedicated in memory of Donald and Anne Bowser, previous owners
of the Plumville business. The primary offices all operate out of the Indiana
location. Indiana is a mid-size college town approximately 60 miles from
Pittsburgh.
Both locations offer
the same services, prices and staff. The one difference in the funeral
homes is the size and convenience, which the newer Indiana home takes
first place. The funeral homes are 17 miles apart.
